Mission Statement

Homeschooling Today magazine, a distinctively Christian publication, is committed to delivering trustworthy and timely articles, reviews, and curricular materials that provide encouragement, practical help, and spiritual growth to Christian families involved in the mission of educating their children.

Our Team

Steve Murphy, the publisher of Homeschooling Today, is husband to Kara, and father of ten. Steve serves as pastor of the Abingdon Parish of Saint Peter Presbyterian Church. A man who has worn many hats, Steve has also served as a missionary, builder, and salesman, but his true love is discipling God’s people starting with his own family. He enjoys conversations with Kara on the front porch swing and playing soccer with his kids in the back yard.

Charles Humphrey, the Executive Director of Homeschooling Today, is husband to Jennifer and father of six (with one on the way in early 2012).  Charles takes care of the “business” end of the magazine and also serves as an elder of Saint Peter Presbyterian Church.  Charles background is construction material sales and design.  Charles typically enjoys deep conversations about any topic, so be prepared to pull up a chair and pour a cup if you have something in mind.

Marilyn Rockett, the Editor in Chief for Homeschooling Today, is also a regular columnist. She has been part of the homeschooling community for thirty years and is a “graduated” homeschool mom of four grown sons and Mimi to six grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson, teaching for fifteen years before the Rocketts ran out of sons to teach. Marilyn has contributed to multiple books over the years and is the author of Homeschooling at the Speed of Life, a book providing encouragement and organizational helps with a scriptural emphasis. Marilyn has worked locally, statewide, and nationally in the homeschooling community and contributed articles to many publications before coming onboard at Homeschooling Today

Erika Schanzenbach, the Art and Design Director for Homeschooling Today, is a graduated homeschool student herself having been educated at home during the ’80s and early ’90s when homeschooling was less widespread. She continued her education earning an AA in Biblical Studies after which she studied publishing and design at a Technical College. She currently lives with her parents and sister in Southwest Virginia, where she works alongside them to build the Kingdom of Christ in her backyard, community, and beyond as the Lord gives opportunity.
